Kenya’s next general election falls on the second Tuesday of August 2027, which puts polling day on 10 August 2027. Voters will elect six leaders on the same day: the President, Governor, Senator, Woman Representative, Member of Parliament and Member of County Assembly. That means thousands of aspirants, from MCA hopefuls in a single ward to presidential campaigns, all needing campaign t-shirts, caps, posters and banners within the same few months. Printers across Nairobi fill up long before the campaign period peaks.

This guide explains what campaign teams order most, which printing method suits each item, how to design materials people recognise from a distance, and how to plan quantities and timelines so your branding is ready before you need it.

What Campaign Teams Order Most

Most campaigns build their branding around a small set of items that work together:

  • Campaign t-shirts: the backbone of any campaign. Supporters wear them to rallies, door-to-door canvassing and on polling day, so every shirt is a moving poster. See t-shirt printing in Nairobi.
  • Caps and polo shirts: caps for supporters in the sun, embroidered polos for the candidate and the core team so they stand out in photos.
  • Posters and flyers: the candidate’s face, name, seat and slogan, printed in bulk for streets, markets and churches, plus flyers that explain the manifesto. See poster and flyer printing.
  • Banners and roll-ups: large PVC banners for rally stages and campaign offices, media backdrop banners for press conferences, and roll-up banners for meetings and town halls. See banner printing in Nairobi.
  • Vehicle branding: door logos, rear window graphics and full wraps that turn campaign cars and matatus into mobile billboards. See vehicle branding.
  • Stickers: car stickers, laptop stickers and small handouts that supporters keep. See sticker and label printing.
  • Teardrop flags: visible from across a field at rallies and roadside events.
  • Manifesto booklets and brochures: a printed manifesto gives undecided voters something to read and keep.
  • Agent and team kits: lanyards, ID badges and branded water bottles for polling agents and volunteers. See event branding and corporate gifts.

Campaign T-Shirts: Choosing the Printing Method

The right method depends on the quantity, the number of colours and how long the shirt needs to last.

Method Best for Watch out for
Screen printing Large runs of the same design in one to three colours Each colour needs its own screen, so setup cost only pays off at volume
DTF printing Full-colour designs with the candidate’s photo, small runs and reorders Costs more per piece than screen printing on very large runs
Embroidery Polos and caps for the candidate and core team Not suited to photos or fine detail; best for logos and short text

For thousands of identical supporter shirts, screen printing usually gives the lowest cost per piece. For shirts that carry the candidate’s photograph, DTF prints the full image cleanly, and it handles small batches for individual wards or events without setup cost. Many campaigns use both: screen-printed shirts in bulk for supporters, DTF for photo shirts and short runs, and embroidery for the team.

Fabric weight matters too. Lighter 150–160 gsm shirts suit giveaways and large rallies; heavier 180–200 gsm shirts hold their shape and suit the team and volunteers who wear them every day. Read more about methods in our guide to UV DTF vs DTF vs sublimation vs screen printing.

Designing Materials People Recognise from a Distance

Campaign materials are seen for a second or two, often from across a road or a crowd. Design for that moment:

  1. Make the name the biggest element. Voters need to read the candidate’s name before anything else.
  2. State the seat clearly: MCA, MP, Woman Representative, Senator, Governor or President, with the ward, constituency or county.
  3. Use the party colours and symbol consistently on every shirt, poster, banner and car, so supporters recognise the campaign instantly.
  4. Keep the slogan short. Four or five words reads from a distance; a full sentence does not.
  5. Use a sharp, professional photo. A low-resolution photo copied from social media looks blurred on a poster or banner. Send the original file.
  6. Keep one design system. The same layout, colours and fonts across shirts, posters, banners and vehicles makes a small budget look like a big campaign.

Before you send files, check our artwork file requirements so the design prints sharply at every size.

Plan Quantities and Timelines Early

Demand for campaign printing in Kenya rises sharply around party primaries and again during the official campaign period, when hundreds of aspirants order at the same time. Ordering early protects your budget and your dates.

  • Order in phases. A launch batch, a primaries batch and a main campaign batch are easier to fund and adjust than one huge order, and later batches can reflect a new slogan or party ticket.
  • Split shirt sizes realistically. Tell us who will wear the shirts and we will suggest a size split; the wrong split leaves boxes of shirts nobody can wear.
  • Approve a sample first. A sample shirt or poster shows the true colours and sizing before the full run.
  • Plan delivery. We deliver within Nairobi and send orders by courier to towns across Kenya, so a campaign in another county can still order from us.

Campaigning Responsibly

Good branding should also keep a campaign out of trouble:

  • Follow the IEBC Electoral Code of Conduct and the official campaign period announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
  • Check your county’s rules on posters and banners in public places before putting them up, and take them down after the election.
  • Kenya banned plastic carrier bags in 2017, so pack giveaways in paper or reusable bags.

Ask for These in Your Quotation

To compare printers fairly, ask every quotation to state:

  1. each item, with quantities and shirt sizes;
  2. the printing method and number of colours for each design;
  3. fabric weight and garment colour for t-shirts;
  4. the sample and approval step;
  5. production time from artwork approval;
  6. delivery to your county or constituency.
